KGR (Keyword Golden Ratio) is a keyword research strategy developed by Doug Cunnington, an SEO expert. The KGR formula is designed to identify low-competition keywords that have a high potential for ranking on the first page of Google. Unlike traditional research, which often focuses on search volume alone, KGR considers the number of search results that include the exact phrase, making it a more targeted approach for finding untapped opportunities.

The KGR formula is calculated as follows:

KGR = (allintitle: Google search results) / (Monthly search volume of the keyword)

For a concept to be considered a “KGR keyword,” the result of this formula should be less than 0.25. It with a KGR below 0.25 are considered low-competition and are more likely to rank on the first page of Google, especially for new or less authoritative websites.
